The Best Gospel & Christian Albums of 2020
The year 2020 might not have kicked-off on the strongest note, but at least there hasn’t been a shortage of new music. In these unprecedented times, music has served as one of the powerful tools providing hope, upliftment, and rekindling the faith of many in Jesus.
Musically, this year has already given us a welcomed ‘Return’ from The Clark Sisters, a ‘Satisfied’ collection from Mercy Chinwo, and other amazing new projects. Gmusicplus narrows these lists, providing readers with some of our favorites and the must-listen Gospel/Christian albums of 2020.
Kierra Sheard: Kierra
KIERRA provides a fitting sanctuary amid these difficult times. The self-titled LP serves as her sixth studio album and first project under her exclusive partnership with RCA Inspiration. Sheard, who began performing professionally at the age of nine, showcases her versatility and growth as an artist on the album with sounds ranging from Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Gospel.

The Clark Sisters: The Return
The Return is The Clark Sisters first collective release in over 10 years. This album, a release by Karew Entertainment and Motown Gospel, is the seventeenth complete album of the legendary group. It is a reinvention of the classic 80s sound of The Clark Sisters combined with a modern flair that both old fans alike will both enjoy.
The Clark Sisters made history with the album’s lead single, “Victory“, reaching number one on Billboard BDS and Mediabase gospel charts. This serves as the second No. 1 in the group’s history (preceded by “Blessed and Highly Favored” in 2007).

Jonathan Mc Reynold: People
Jonathan breaks new ground with the release of “PEOPLE,” a full-length visual album – the first for the genre of gospel music. The amazing 8-track collection boasts amazing collaborations with Mali Music, The Walls Group, and Pastor Mike Todd. The album’s central theme is to focus on God’s promise and one’s own self-control in order to live an eternal life.

Mercy Chinwo: Satisfied
“SATISFIED” is the compelling follow up to her acclaimed debut “The Cross: My Gaze”. The 15-track LP boasts collaborations with renowned indigenous gospel music minister, Chioma Jesus, and Multiple Stellar Award-winning artist JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise (Excess Love Remix). It features her widely acclaimed singles “Chinedum” “Akamdinelu” and “Obinasom“.
With songs written, rendered in English, Igbo, Yoruba, Calabar, and music styles from different parts of Nigeria, Africa, and the Western world; Mercy Chinwo’s musical prowess and vocal range are evident in the music in this album. Upon release, the project reached NO. 1 on iTunes Nigeria Top Album Chart.

Tauren Wells: Citizen of Heaven
Marking Tauren Well’s sophomore album, the 13-track set is an amazing body of works with Pop-Rnb influenced sounds, coupled with uplifting messages that emphasize God’s Love and Grace. It’s the follow-up to Tauren’s award-winning debut solo album, Hills and Valleys, released in 2017.
The new project boasts several incredible collaborations, including “Millionaire (Good Like That),” with multiple GRAMMY® Award winner Kirk Franklin,  who lends his signature sound to the song which he also produced.

Mercy Masika: Zaidi
Kenyan gospel singer Mercy Masika treated her fans to an exclusive premiere of this project with uplifting live performances of songs from the 11-track LP online. The album boasts a guest collaboration with Afrocentric pop-worship songstress, Ada Ehi.
The album’s first track “Nivute” was delivered in Kamba, while the rest are in English and Kiswahili. “This album is a repetition of what my heart is saying about God and getting closer to Him” Mercy enthused.

CalledOut Music: Portraits
This serves as the second studio album from the Award-winning UK-based Christian artist. The beautiful body of work takes you on a journey of CalledOut Music deep communion and relationship with the Father (God), highlighting His never-ending Love, Grace, and Faithfulness. It’s a follow-up to his 2018 album “In Due Time (Genesis)” which boasts hit single “Love Around“.
PORTRAITS is an 8-track collection that’s sure to uplift your hearts and spirits this season; a perfect playlist for now. ‘Already Won,” “Grace,” and “Warm Embrace” are some of the amazing numbers from the project. We can vouch for the quality of this collection and would recommend you get a copy.
