PhotoNews : Gospel Singer ‘Psalm Ebube’ Traditional Introduction Ceremony

AkinYemi O,Samuel popularly known in Christian cycle as Psalm Ebube and Funmilola Dada.  The couple had their traditional family introduction ceremony in Badagry- Lagos Nigeria and all the gorgeousness was captured by SOJay Photograph. Psalm ebube the artiste behind one of Nigeria’s top indigenous praise song of the moment ”Kabio’osi  & Funmilola  was sweet enough to walk us through the traditional rites of a Yoruba introduction ceremony.

In the Yoruba culture, an “Introduction” Ceremony is held so both families can meet officially. The idea behind this is to introduce key members of both families so they know their son or daughter’s new relatives. It’s usually a small affair, but these days, it’s like a mini traditional wedding ceremony.

The day started off pretty early for us, even though we were totally exhausted from the activities of a couple of event and shows with Psalm cos The whole of Dec was all round Shows for him so we all had to fly  from Abuja a day before the introduction. My talented friend  TOJU Make-ups, arrived bright and early to do my make up. We decided to go for a very light smoky eye, with blue under tones –I was more than pleased with the results.

While I was getting dressed, my fiancé Psalm arrived with his family. Traditionally, they are expected to wait outside till he’s invited in (they were all in their cars waiting for the Alaga Iduro to invited them they also came with their own Alaga ijoko’MC/compare so they also came with baskets of Fruits/Wines which is a traditional way of introduction whiles my own family to gave them wrapped gifts which includes Biscuits and Suit. After he was invited in, he was asked to state his intentions and then greet my parents – by greeting, in Yoruba Culture, we mean men lying flat on the ​ground and women kneeling.

Shortly after this,the  Alaga iduro (MC/compare) my friends danced me into the living room where Psalm ebube was waiting with both families. The “ Alaga-Idiro”MC/compare” asked if I knew who he was and if I was sure I wanted to marry him.

Lastly, I was asked to show them how to place His cap. So I did it with Swag Though…. #smiles  each member of both families was introduced and we were done! The rest of the evening was spent mingling and getting to know the family members we hadn’t met yet. I drove along with the Photographer to Psalms place for Photography, I got back home to my parents house few minutes later i changed into a more comfortable outfit and enjoyed the rest of  my night with my family.
