Donnie McClurkin Reveals Painful Past; Says Mom Blamed Him for His Brother’s Death
In New YouTube Series 'Tracked'
Gospel music icon and Pastor Donnie McClurkin gets emotional about his intense upbringing in his YouTube series tagged ‘TRACKED‘. The Grammy Award winner revealed his painful past when asked to talk about a challenging moment in his life he knew only “Calling on the name of the Lord” could help him.
“The residue of my brother being killed in front of our house at two years old, hit by a car following me, and my mother telling me I killed her son” said Donnie, “And then 3 days after, on the day of my brother’s funeral at 8-yrs-old, the three rapes in one night by my great uncle”
“That residue stay with me throughout the rest of my childhood” He Added
McClurkin went further saying that he learned to sing and play in his teens (13), which created an escape route from those hurt feelings each time he plays the hymn “Sweet Hour of Prayer”.
“The way I would get away from it is I will sit and play the piano, and play hymns that we heard in church” Then he sang the hymn, see quotable lyrics below;
“Sweet hour of prayer
Sweet hour of prayer
That calls me from a world of care
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known
In seasons of distress and grief
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By Thy return, sweet hour of prayer”
“Whenever depression would hit me, at a teenage, that was always my goto song” Donnie Added
