Drew Smith Releases New Album “Blue February”
After his debut release, A Dream Never Dies, recording artist Drew Smith drops sophomore album, BLUE FEBRUARY. The 12-track LP, produced solely by Kevin Mayfield fka Hot Handz, features his daughters Aniya & Aubrey Smith who he mentions throughout the whole album.
This is a well thought-out story told from the perspective of a Father trying to navigate in this world while impacting it in a positive way. Blue February narrates a story that brings the listener closer into the fold of who Drew Smith really is. Every Story navigates through to the next record perfectly and sets the stage for this vocally produced play. It’s a modern day Opera!
“I wanted to create a body of work that will resonate with anyone who hears it, music that can push people to the next level of life. I enjoyed highlighting father hood and since it consumes my life I wanted this music to remain as personal as possible,” says Drew
“My approach to this project was to create real music that feels good to the soul, music that’s not just for radio,” producer Kevin Mayfield, whose credits include Ambassador, Da’Truth and Social Club Misfits, Drew Smith A Dreamr Never Diesand now Blue February. “I wanted the sounds to marry his vocals and create the perfect sound to share his transparency”
Review:
In “The Letter”, Drew starts the project off with a letter to the world and the weight he feels when attempting to ring hope into a society that’s filled with greed, hurt, and shame. In tracks like “Blue/Don’t Stop,” “Destiny” he creates the perfect vibe music that highlights the real thoughts of a dreamer/entrepreneur, someone who is willing to take a risk to get what they want out of life. He gets personal with “#1 Dad” as he paints his own picture of fatherless-ness and dedicates lines to his brother and sister perspective as well. The way he ends “#1 Dad” is beautiful and refreshing.
The project closes with a complex record called “February” involving multiple artists, the purpose was to create with artist from scratch each time to design multiple hooks in one song. The last verse is especially detailed and hopes the listeners catch what he did to sum up the project! Once again he highlights his 13-year-old daughter Aniya to close out the song and it sounds amazing.
