6 Gospel Artists To Look Out For This Year | 2018
As 2018 gets underway, Gmusicplus present a list of 6 fresh gospel artists to watch. The list is made up of mostly new and emerging acts who are Exceptional, Talented and, Made a mark in 2017.
Phil Thompson is a singer-songwriter, worship leader and a Boston, MA native. He is gifted minstrel whose craft is driven by a desire to uplift others. As he puts it, “The mandate is clear. I feel the Lord’s call on my life to lead people into His presence- to lead them to worship.”
A former member of urban contemporary gospel group – Ashmont Hill, Phil officially launched his solo career with release of his debut single “My Worship”, in August, 2017.
“My Worship,” which is written by Phil has made an immediate impact in the marketplace with a No. 2 debut on Billboard’s Gospel Digital Song Sales chart and Top 10 on iTunes Christian/Gospel Songs chart. The live session video of the song has so far amassed over 1.8 million YouTube views.
Few months after single release, Phil Thompson inked a record deal with JJ Hairston’s Jamestown Music! His debut project is set to be released in this year 2018, and will be available on all of the digital platforms.
Mercy Chinwo is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and actress. She first came to prominence after winning the Etisalat and Pepsi sponsored Nigerian Idol Season 2 in 2012.
In 2015, the exceptional vocalist graciously made her entry into the music scene with her first official single “Testimony,” Produced by Rotimi Keys – an award winning music producer. In 2016, She released her second single ‘IGWE‘ which brought her into the spotlight.
In 2017, the dynamic songstress released 4 new singles including the highly acclaimed ‘Excess Love“which is fast becoming an anthem in Nigeria and beyond.
Late last year, Mercy Chinwo signed a record deal with port-Harcourt based record label Eezee Concepts which also came with a furnished apartment, a car and an office.
She is currently working on her debut project which should arrive soon.
A strong voice in this generation, Dunsin Oyekan is a virtuoso musician and a wonder on the bass guitar. He has been playing the guitar since he was 10years old.
Dunsin is an anointed psalmist who has reinvented and revitalized the gospel music industry in Africa.He lead the crystal award winning choir, THE AVALANCHE (official choir of the commonwealth of Zion assembly – COZA), a choir commended by gospel music greats as the best in Africa.
In 2016, He released his worship project, CODE RED, which boasts hit single “Na You” which has been sung through the lips of many, and triggered over 6 spin off versions by a number of artistes globally. The official track features American gospel songstress, Kim Burrell.
The CodeRed album includes powerful songs like; You are Good , All I Say is Jesus, Amazing, More.. His most recent single, ‘Hallelujah‘ was recorded live at CODE RED 5 by Greenwox multimedia.
Dunsin has shared stage with notable names in the industry – Frank Edward, Nathaniel Bassey, Kurt Carr, Don moen, Byron cage, Kim Burrell, Tye Tribbett, William Murphy and more.
